East Coast Blues Society Announces New Weekly Saturday Afternoon Blues Matinee

In partnership with the Bedford location of the storied Split Crow Pub, the ECBS is excited to announce HRM's newest Saturday afternoon Blues matinee.

Starting March 15, just in time for the always popular St Paddy's Day celebrations, the Split Crow will be boppin' to the sounds of Shrimp Daddy and the Sharpshooters. Every Saturday from 3-7PM Shrimp Daddy and the boys will be laying down some of the best Maritime Blues around with their "Bedford Boogie Woogie Blues Review".

Where: Split Crow Pub in Bedford, NS (right beside Long & McQuade)

When: Every Saturday starting March 15th from 3 to 7 PM

Dale Schimpf, Chairman of the East Coast Blues Society says "We've been taking a close look at the market for live music in HRM and we're convinced that an afternoon/early evening matinee in the suburbs has a strong chance of becoming a regular stop on people's Saturday itinerary. Maybe people can't even identify what Blues is specifically but the Blues is a good time, toe tapping music that lifts you up as soon as you hear that infectious driving rhythm. The Saturday afternoon matinee is a perfect opportunity to stop in for a drink or a bite to eat, enjoy some good times with family and friends as you do some running around on Saturday. Drop in and enjoy some swingin music, come back next week with some friends and stay a little longer."

Chris Chisolm, owner of the Split Crow's Bedford location says "We've been featuring live music at this location for awhile now and the support and enthusiasm for live music has been steadily growing, which is great to see. We want to be the hub for live music in this area and are well positioned at the crossroads of the 102 and 101 to draw people in from a wide area and provide a viable alternative to heading all the way downtown for a late night evening and the worry of getting home.

Michael “Shrimp Daddy” Reid is a journeyman harp player and front man who originally hails from Montreal and has rapidly developed into a driving force in vocalizing, interpreting and writing Chicago and West Coast jump and swing blues. Shrimp Daddy recently relocated from Toronto to Nova Scotia, and immediately formed an all star band featuring some of the Maritimes best players, many of them alumni of the Dutch Mason Blues Band, including Carter Chaplin on guitar, AJ Jardine on drums, and Barry Cook on bass and piano.

Shrimp Daddy is the winner of the 2011 MAPLE BLUES AWARD for "NEW ARTIST OR GROUP OF THE YEAR", was nominated for the 2011 CANADIAN INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS FOR "BLUES ARTIST/GROUP OF THE YEAR", and was a semi-finalist at the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN when he represented the Toronto Blues Society.
